Though we keep ourselves busy – I log on to my computer regularly, just to see if he’s there. A five-minute chat here and there is better than no contact at all. Phone calls have become increasingly rare since he left again, so stalking Skype is all I have at the moment. When I see he’s there my heart skips a beat. It’s like when we first got together – that little thrill, the same infatuation.
If he is online, and it is him using his computer – joy! I call to Zoey and she comes running over like a puppy dog, grinning from ear to ear. “Daddy’s there! Look! Can you say, ‘Daddy?’”
And every once in a while, we get to use the webcam to see each other. A kiss blown to me from Kuwait can make my entire day – and I’m sure hearing “Daddy” in his headphones makes him feel special too. We’re just counting the remaining days on our fingers and toes. Spring and then summer. Not long now.
