labor and delivery

It’s getting down to the wire, with two weeks until my due date!

So I’ve been working on my birth plan … Trying to keep it short and simple is hard to do – keeping in mind I’m having this baby in a military hospital with whomever is on call at the time I go into labor.

The main thing is that I want to try and have her without being all drugged up. I don’t know if I can do the whole natural childbirth thing, since I haven’t been to any classes or anything – but I’ll give it my best shot (no pun intended). I learned tonight that my mom had both my brother and I without an epidural, so that gives me hope that if she can do it, I can too. I did sign up for the Lamaze class at Sagua – but it’s on Oct. 6, and I’m due the 7th, so we’re really squeezing ourselves. But if she’s not here, then it won’t hurt to go and learn something. Working full time and trying to fit everything in has been the most challenging part of this entire pregnancy.

Anyway – to all my friends who’ve had their babies already – if you don’t mind sharing your experience with me, I’d love to hear what you went through and if you have any advice for me. You can either post it here or email it to me, depending on how public you want to go. And heck, even if you haven’t had a kid, why not share your opinion with me too? Just don’t tell me any horror stories with gory details that are more scary than informative, mkay? =|

I just keep reminding myself that women have been giving birth since the dawn of the human race, and that my body will know what to do so I just need to trust it.

p.s. Thank you June for the pictures! Can you email me some as well, since I can’t download and save them thru webshots? Doesn’t matter the file size since I’m on Gmail.

what a surprise!

I had an inkling, but everyone played it so cool that I decided I was just being paranoid … but turns out my friends had been scheming the entire time to throw a surprise baby shower! I was totally speechless and immensely thankful. I haven’t seen most of my relatives in months … and they managed to get everyone into June’s house.

Some highlights: The cute cake with a brown baby girl on it. My Auntie Naning being incredibly clever throughout the taboo word game. The tasty spread of food that included all kinds of stuff I can eat! June’s crafty favors, and freshly baked diaper cake. Lani fibbing her ass off to me on the phone this morning. Michelle calling in from Vegas. Opening presents with Wayne. Val and Ronnie’s presents win for having the prettiest wrappers, which Wayne tore through. The streamer game was the most fun – and made me feel not so fat. *laughs*

Thanks to Lani, June and Val for such a lovely day. I hope they send me some pictures – I was too stunned to take any even though I did bring my camera.

Zoey cleaned up – she’s got beautiful outfits galore thanks to all of her aunties, grandma and great-grandma. She’s also got pampers, a swing, baby sling, pillow, monitor, tons of blankets, bottles, pacifiers, headbands …. on and on. Everyone has been so giving and generous to us that I’m just at a loss to express how thankful I am.

I love you all. ‘Nuff said. =D

maternity leave

I can’t wait, I can’t wait, I can’t wait.

I decided to take all twelve weeks available to me off of work for the baby. I’ll be out from Oct. 8 until Dec. 31! Or that’s the plan anyway …

Thanks to everyone for cheering me up after my last post. I love you guys.
